WWII - Spitfire
The Spitfire is the most famous aircraft ever to have served in the Royal Air Force. It remained in production for twelve years and with over 22,000 having been built. At the end of its development life the Spitfire carried an engine giving more than twice the power and weighing three quarters more than the prototype. Many countries from around the world operated the Spitfire and many still fly today at airshows displaying its superb manoeuvrability to an adoring public.
